Only an hour outside of Moshi, tucked away in the village of Rundugai is a hidden hot spring, Maji Moto. At Maji Moto you can enjoy swimming in the beautiful clear water and exploring the surrounding area. Take the day to go relax at the hot springs, have a picnic, and go swimming. For people with more time it is possible to set up camp at Maji Moto for the night and have a barbeque under the stars.

Lake Challa is a crater lake on the boarder of Tanzania and Kenya. It is about an hour and a half drive from Moshi town. Lake Challa is a great day trip or the perfect place to camp for the night. The hike starts at the rim of the crater looking down on the beautiful lake. You will hike for approximately 45 minutes through savanna woodlands down to the lake. Spend the day swimming in the lake and relaxing on the shore before hiking back up the crater walls.
At certain times of the year you can sit on the deck overlooking the lake and watch families of elephants, monkeys, and baboons drink out of the watering holes, which are adjacent to the lake. There is a beautiful campsite at Lake Challa with a campfire, cooking facilities, and a bar.

At Mar Tours and Safaris we know that not everyone has enough time to climb to Mt. Kilimanjaro’s summit. That is why we offer a one day trip along the Marangu route to the first base camp where you will be able to walk around the Maundi Crater. The trek takes you through the rainforest where there is a great deal of wildlife including colobus monkeys.

Arusha National Park lies forty-five minutes outside of Arusha city and is an easy journey to make from both Moshi and Arusha. It is a small park, but offers a great deal of variety in both landscape and wildlife. Common animals seen in Arusha National Park include: giraffe, buffalo, waterbucks, hippos, warthog, zebra, flamingos, white-and-black colobus monkeys, and blue monkeys. Additionally there are many different species of birds which are easy to observe due to the fertile forest.

Coffee is Tanzania’s largest export good and is shipped all over the world. Since long before independence farmers have been harvesting Arabica coffee on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The majority of coffee farms in northern Tanzania are small scale family farms. Join Mar Tours and Safaris and have the opportunity to visit a small scale family run coffee farm on the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Spend the day learning about how coffee is made from experts, speaking with local farmers who have dedicated their lives to growing coffee, and drinking some of the best coffee in the world.
During the coffee tour take a detour and hike to the Maturuni waterfalls, providing an opportunity to walk through the coffee fields and see how the local Chagga people live. The Maturuni waterfalls are some of the most stunning waterfalls in the Kilimanjaro region. If it is warm enough, bring your bathing suit and you can go for a swim in the waterfall pool.
